Martin Vrooom is ready to go. After months of planning and anticipation it is time for the 2014 Great Race. For those who might not be familiar with the Great Race it is a cross-country rally for antique, vintage and collector cars. It is not a test of speed but rather a test of driver/navigator team's ability to follow precise course instructions and the car's (and teams's) ability to endure the trip. This year we are driving 2,100 miles from Ogunquit, Maine to The Villages, Florida. The green flag drops on June 21 for the 100 cars to begin the 9 day adventure.
Our car "Maxine" is a red 1938 Ford coupe entry #38. We hope you will follow us and cheer us on as we journey through 13 states on a great adventure.

Ready to Rally
Surprise surprise we are ready ahead of schedule. Maxine is in the trailer ready for the trip, I have plenty of highlighters, rally shirts are packed so we are ready for the Great Race. I feel like it is the calm before the storm since once we get to Minneapolis it will be busy busy busy.
I plan to take time to post during the event but once we start the rally I tend to forget about most everything. You can also follow our progress on the Great Race website.greatrace.com

READY TO RALLY
Our yellow Vette "Mustard" at the first Coker Tire Challenge.

We are excited to participate in the fifth Coker Tire Challenge. This rally special to us. In 2006 we participated in the first Coker which was our first rally experience.
We had no idea what we were doing. I tell people there was no one who knew less about rallying than me! We knew nothing about time/speed and performance. Our only "rally tools" were a stopwatch (Which I didn't know how to use) and one highlighter. Now we have a speedo, rally clock, numerous charts, lots of various colored highlighters, writing board/paper holder and all the rally tools.
There seems to be a problem with me knowing right from left! When we came to the first turn I said " turn right"and Gary started turning right. I realized what I thought was right really should have been left so I said "no the other way". After that we decided to use the method of saying turn "my side or your side" instead of using right or left.
Needless to say after we did the first Coker Tire Challenge we were "hooked" !!! As I always say, "We won't have the best scores but there is no one who has more fun than we do!".
